After four decades of advisory interactions between academics and policymakers, communication between these two groups is still not easily achieved. A brief look at the experiences and profiles of expert advisors is the foundation for considering the prospects of further involvement of faculty in library and information science (LIS) on information issues. Analysis of vitae of LIS faculty reveals and expressed interest in themes pertinent to information policy and suggests LIS faculty are likely to have the skills essential to participation in political arenas.
