Efficacy of carbendazim 25 DS was examined in sugarcane, in raised bed conditions with c.v. 92061 against SRD. When single bud setts were soaked in 0.75 g. and 1.0 g/lit. water alongwith 1% wea for 5 minutes and planted, the germination was more than 80% even at third week of planting and on par with the present recommendation of carbendazim 50 wup at 0.5 g/lit. + 1 % urea. There was a small saving in treatment cost when carbendazim 25 DS 0.75 g/ lit was employed. However at 1.0 g/lit, height of settlings and number of leaves per settling were better than 0.75 g/lit. For control of SRD in sugarcane, carbendazim 25 DS 1.0 g/lit. with 1% urea is recommended. For studying the efficacy of fungicides against SRD and other diseases and also for evaluating varietal reaction to diseases, this raised bed method was found to be more suited and time saving.
