Diseases made 1995 a difficult year for potato growers. Some of these diseases are well-known : certain plots were seriously hit by Brown scurf, Mildew caused harm in many regions at the beginning and end of the season, and Envinia caused problems after harvesting. A further cause for alarm was the arrival of a new pathogene, necrogenic virus Y, a cause of necrosis ringspot disease. Finally, the reader's attention is drawn to the increasing damage wreaked by the bacteria Burkholderia solanacearum, a cause of Brown rot.
