Considerable efforts have been performed all over the world in order to replace conventional CFCs, responsible for depletion of Earth's stratospheric ozone layer. The use of alternative blowing agents requires accurate research for the optimization of their employment in the insulation industry. ECP/EniChem Polimeri has been investigating several options to propose specific solutions for different situations. Particular attention has been paid to the use of HCFC-22, that is currently industrially available, and to HCFC-123 and HFC-134a, available at semi-commercial levels, as reliable alternatives of CFC-11 in the refrigeration industry.
