It has recently been reported that lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] may decrease fibrinolytic activity. We wondered whether the concentration of Lp(a) in blood follows a circadian rhythm that might play a role in the known rhythm for fibrinolytic activity. To study this we obtained citrated plasma samples on 6 healthy males (age 34±5 years) every 2 hours for 24 hours. Lp(a) antigen was measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with reagents from Biopool Inc.
