The identification of the Iron Age city on Kerkenes Dağ in Central Anatolia

Dans cet article, l'auteur démontre que l'immense cité de l'Age du Fer édifiée à Kerkenes Dağ est une fondation impériale. Il s'interroge alors sur les raisons de la fondation d'une nouvelle cité fortifiée à cet endroit et sur l'identité de ses fondateurs. D'après l'étude d'Hérodote et les données de nouvelles fouilles archéologiques, il montre qu'il pourrrait s'agir de la cité de Pteria, construite par les Mèdes après la fin de la guerre contre la Lydie (585 av. J.-C.) et restée inachevée à sa destruction en 545 av. J.-C. par Crésus.
