A finite element analysis of layer-wise-in-plane displacement effects on composite laminate characteristics such as damping reveals that the natural frequency is not vulnerable to displacement variation whereas plate damping is very vulnerable. The plate's damping vulnerability occurs when local behavior affects damping. The method uses the modal strain energy scheme to obtain the specific damping capacity of each vibrational mode.
