The Trade Union Council (TUC) consider the National Minimum Wage (NMW) in the UK should be over 4 pounds sterling per hour whilst the CBI support an hourly rate of about 3 pounds sterling. The TUC and the CBI have put forward their views to the Low Pay Commission set up to help the Labour Government decide the level of the NMW. The TUC want the NMW to only reflect the rate of pay for a set number of hours and not include overtime payments. The CBI points out that wages only form part of employees' remunerations, such as employers' contributions to pensions and free travel arrangements.
