Sinsusoidal waveforms, which have manageable and repeatable characteristics, are produced from D-A converters used with microprocessors. EPROM look-up tables can be used to maintain sine-wave values; another technique is used to treat D-A converters as microprocessor-operated potentiometers in an active and conventional RC-oscillator circuit. Digital wave control is feasible with the use of D-A converters to produce sinusoidal waveforms. The CMOS DAC ladder network functions as a digitally operated variable resistor in the active RC oscillator; frequency is set by the digital inputs produced by the DAC.
