In this study, the carbon black was added into polypropylene (PP) to produce polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) component. The effect of carbon black content, plasma treatment of PP, cross-linking agent concentration and γ-ray irradiation doses on the PTC intensity of component were investigated. And then, various kind properties of composites, such as electricity, physical, mechanical properties were tested. The PP was pretreated by plasma and then blended with different content of carbon black, and equal ratio of dicumyl peroxide (DCP). After compound, the composites were irradiated by different doses of 60Co γ-ray. On the other hand, adding of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and irradiating by 60Co γ-ray were increased the PTC intensity of composites. In the research, as PP was treated by low power of plasma doses and 0.75-1.00phr of DCP contents, the PP/CB composites possessed 6~7 order of PTC intensity. But, they would not eliminate the NTC effect. And, we would observe that irradiated by 60Co γ-ray could not improve the NTC effect, too. So we would add the second polymer in composites. First, we would add HDPE in PP/CB. And the NTC effect was improved. But, the R-T curves were raised to advance the date. Therefore, we would choice the Nylon which the melting point was close to PP. After adding Nylon6, the NTC effect was eliminated. But the viscosity was decreased, and would make the adhesion of thin copper reducing hardly. Final, we would use the Nylon12. In the research, the NTC effect would be eliminated by adding Nylon12 in PP/CB composite. And it has the good intensity of PTC with adding cross-linking agent. And the viscosity of Nylon12 was better than Nylon6. Therefore, we would observe that the composites of PP/Nylon12/CB have good PTC behavior and low-impedance.
