Background:It has been reported that 30% of people over 65 years old have dizziness problem. It was known that disruption of vestibulo-ocular reflex can contribute to oscillopsia, which in turn, will cause dizziness and unsteadiness in persons suffering from vestibular disorder. The assessment of vestibular dysfunction was generally based on vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and vestibule-spinal reflex (VSR). Clinical evaluations included dynamic visual acuity (DVA), dynamic gait index (DGI) and other balance tests had certain limitations. The rehabilitation training programs in VOR were not specific enough in clinical application. Purposes: The objectives of this study were to(1)develop a device providing evaluating and training modules for VOR and VSR,(2)compare the differences of DVA and center of pressure (COP) among normal, unilateral vestibular hypofunction (UVH) and bilateral vestibular hypofunction (BVH) subjects, and(3)to evaluate the effectiveness of VOR training. Methods:The signals of rate sensor and force plate were transferred and composed. After that, evaluating module and training module were created by LabVIEW software. We used common scenes in daily life to train vestibulo-ocular reflex. Dynamic visual acuity and COP were evaluated with our device on subjects’ first visits and one month after training. Questionnaires including The Activities-Specific Confidence Scale (ABC), Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) as well as objective scales including DGI, Tinetti Balance Scale, Timed Up and Go test (TUG) were also evaluated on their first and follow-up evaluations. Statistical analysis:The changes in DVA and COP among the three groups were compared by ANOVA(p
