The biotechnology industry is globally recognized as the star industry for the coming century. It is also the industry that our government has been aggressively promoting over the past years. Since 1995, there were four amendments to the “Biotechnology Industry Promotion Enhancement Project” to precisely identify strategic goals. In the year 2005, our government officially announced the initiation of “Bio-Medical Technology Island” project in hopes to position ourselves as the “Clinical Research Center” of the Asia region. The global trend of work partitioning, together with cost consideration have gradually shifted clinical trial conduct to focus on Asia. Thus, it is imperative that Taiwan local CRO (Contract Research Organization) industry will face front-on competition from global corporations. The question of how we can fortify local CRO attributes to elevate clinical execution quality and efficiency becomes the most urgent issue. This research will introduce the industrial uniqueness and future opportunities of CRO companies. Starting from the challenges faced by local CRO, a case study will be demonstrated on an individual company’s construction of “Clinical Trial Management System” to cover clinical trial platform integration. Through the case study, the effectiveness to elevate quality and efficiency to excel in core industrial competition will be evaluated. Analysis will be based on the comparison of various KPI from before and after the construction of the integration system.
