Usually, constructability review usually be reviewed thought using 2D CAD drawings. The constructability review using 2D CAD drawings usually cause misunderstandings problems easily. Furthermore, this practical problem always makes the inconvenient of involved engineers and managers and also decreases the efficiency in the highway projects during construction phase. Civil information modeling (CIM) is the latest concept and technology in civil and infrastructure engineering. The main function of CIM includes presenting and simulating construction operations by 3D model, and making constructability analysis and review by 3D CIM models. To enhance the performance of constructability analysis and review, this study proposes a CIM-based constructability analysis approach for general contractors during the construction phase in the highway projects. The proposed approach is then applied in the selected highway project case study in Taiwan to demonstrate the effectiveness of CIM-based constructability analysis and review in practice. The combined results demonstrate that, a proposed approach can be an effective constructability review tool by utilizing CIM technologies. Finally, this study identifies the benefits, limitations, and facing problems through the case study. Finally, conclusion and suggestion are summarized for further applications.
