Random access refers to the ability to access data at random. LTE random access procedure is used by the UEs to initiate a data transfer. The UEs also obtain uplink timing information from the initial handshake. In the Physical Random Access Channel ( PRACH ), detection performance is a very important issue, but the preamble detection performance of the correlation peak detection ( CPD ) algorithm is sensitive to the channel model. When Rayleigh fading channel is adopted, the receiver performance of the correlation peak detection ( CPD ) degrades. In this thesis, the correlation norm detection ( CND ) algorithm is proposed based on the Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test ( GLRT ) principle and the Neyman Pearson ( NP ) criterion. The results also show that the proposed algorithm provides a better performance in preamble detection.
