This article takes Changhua NanYao Temple and its local Young Men's Association as the main research object. NanYao Temple is located in Changhua City, which is an early-developed place of the central region of Taiwan. Since the establishment of the temple, it has gone through the rule of Qing dynasty and Japanese occupation period, and entered the era of the Republic of China. During this long history, it is closely related to the historical development of Taiwan, which further reflects the process of Taiwan society in depth. The connotation of Mazu faith culture carried by NanYao Temple has also changed along with different historical backgrounds and cultural implication. Today, the emergence of the Youth Men’s Association has precisely revealed the crisis of the local Mazu faith culture in the generational discontinuity. ‘There are always young believers in every historical era, but why is the appearance of the Young Men's Association necessary today?’ The social vicissitudes stemmed from the vigorously development of mass culture, pop culture and the internet technology bring a more serious situation to the inheritance of religious culture, and Mazu culture is no exception. In 2011, the Young Men's Association of NanYao Temple was born at the proper moment. Different from the traditional temple practice and the cultural identity of Mazu faith, it works on the revitalization of the Ponkan pilgrimage activity, forming and consolidating the Mazu believers’ collective memory which helps across the boundaries between the individual domain and collective domain, so as to maintain the stability and integrity of the group and further generate the sense of identity. This paper utilized three main methodologies of literature research, observation record and interview to explore the causes of generational discontinuity in the Changhua Mazu faith, which are analyzed and summarized as political factors, value recognition, and social communication methods. The establishment of the Young Men's Association is to adapt to the times. They combine traditional cult ure and innovative ways, use new media propaganda channels, and organize many traditional cultural activities, aiming to restore the identity of NanYao Temple, reconstruct their new collective memories and unite more young partners to build their common identity of Mazu culture. According to this study, this century-old temple has evolved from time to time. In response to the demand of inheritance, the "Youth Club" has had chance to be given birth to, and the century-old cultural tradition of the Nanyao Palace has finally been able to continue in innovation. In a word, with the rapid advancement of science and technology today, in order to withstand the baptism of time, whether it is religions, groups, industries or even individuals, it is necessary to continuously bring fresh blood in order to keep the precious culture, experience and knowledge unfading.
