In this paper, we present a fully differential image rejection mixer used in the S-band radar chip system transceiver. The IF center frequency is 70MHz, and RF center frequency is 3.3GHz realized in CMOS 0.18μm 1P6M process. This transceiver adopt superheterodyne structure, in this paper we show the circuit principle and simulation result by a 700MHz to 70MHz down convert mixer. The circuit structure is similar to Hartley image rejection structure with a gain boosted Gilbert cell mixer. Sence this circuit is a prototype circuit, so there is many things need improvement, moreover, this circuit is an experimental circuit, so we will derivate the principle of any subcircuit in the image rejection mixer, include the circuit model and mathematical formula, and verificate by the rigorous simulation settings. In addition to the gain boosted Gilbert cell, the image rejection mixer consist of two poly-phase filter which one is for IF port to reject the image singal and the other one is used for generate the quadrature signal on RF port, 3-stage buffer is used for not only slow down the loading effect between mixer core and poly-phase filter but also provide a little bit gain to cancel out the loss form poly-phase filter. The total area without PADs of this circuit is 260μm*150μm.
