A Study of the Relationships among Workplace Romance Organizational Support, Autonomy of Employees and Job Satisfaction.

People spend almost one-third of the day in their workplace. Employees who work together might develop romantic feelings and create office romance. Unfortunately, most organizations would not permit workplace romance partly because possible work performance decline and negative moral generation. When workplace romance doesn’t work out, which could lead to a high turnover rate. Some organizations expressively prohibit workplace romance and state the prohibition in the contract. Nowadays organizations recognize the importance of human resource and focus on employees’ job satisfaction in order to reduce the turnover rate and thus employ high-quality human resource in the organization. The study examined the relationship between organization support of workplace romance and job satisfaction through a mediating role, autonomy in workplace. Participants are full-time workers aged 18 or older. Data were collected via a questionnaire, including workplace romance organizational awareness scale, the employee autonomy scale and the job satisfaction scale. Data were analyzed by using IBM SPSS 22 and Mplus6, including descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlation, reliability, structural equation modeling. The results showed: (1) workplace romance organization policy support was positively related to employee autonomy; (2) employee autonomy was positively related to job satisfaction; (3) workplace romance organization policy support did not have a direct effect on job satisfaction; (4) employee autonomy mediated the relationship between workplace romance organization policy support and job satisfaction.
