“Nhà tập thể” - hay chính xác hơn là “nhà tập thể cũ” - là thuật ngữ được sử dụng phổ biến để phân biệt với các công trình có chức năng tương tự như nhà chung cư kể từ khoảng năm 2000 trở về sau. Những công trình này mang đậm dấu ấn của các kiến trúc sư Xô Viết, mang đặc trưng của một lối sống Hà Nội trong những năm tháng bao cấp. Nhà tập thể ra đời sớm trở thành biểu tượng cho cuộc sống hiện đại lúc bấy giờ với mọi điều kiện thiết yếu được gói gọn trong một khu vực cụ thể. Có thể nói từ những khu tập thể này, một lối sống mới đã được hình thành – lối sống nông thôn đan xen với lối sống đô thị hiện đại và có tác động qua lại lẫn nhau, tồn tại song song. Nhà tập thể biểu hiện cho một trang quan trọng trong lịch sử kiến trúc nhà ở nói riêng và lịch sử về văn hóa, tinh thần nói chung ở Việt Nam, đặc biệt là ở các đô thị, mà Hà Nội là một trường hợp tiêu biểu. Trên cơ sở khảo cứu một số nguồn tư liệu lưu trữ kết hợp với góc nhìn lịch sử - kiến trúc - xã hội, bài viết bước đầu tiếp cận nghiên cứu di sản lịch sử - văn hóa nhà tập thể cũ ở thủ đô giai đoạn trước năm 1990, trong đó khu tập thể cũ Trung Tự sẽ được khảo cứu và phân tích như một nghiên cứu điểm.Ngày nhận 15/01/2019; ngày chỉnh sửa 20/2/2019; ngày chấp nhận đăng 28/2/2019
