The project planning on a power system consist on gather information, study and forecast scenarios, define and anticipate the work requirements and equipment for an optimal performance of said system in order to satisfy the projected electrical energy demand in a certain time horizon. That is why a proper planning on electric generation is needed to optimize resources, lower energy losses and achieve an energy independence stage to the final user as for the Power System. Due to the remarkable costs on the implementation of electric generation, the cumulative environmental impacts and increasingly large engineering problems; the Distributed Generation (DG) promises to be an ideal solution to the electricity sector deficiencies both in coverage and in robustness of networks. In response to these necessities this work studies the insertion of submersible turbines for DG in water conduction canals at the Machángara Hydroelectric Complex (MHC) analyzed from a pre-feasibility scope looking to identify if the means and resources available at the MHC are adequate and sufficient to carry out this project in the future. It´s studied with this goal: the flow in the canals, the existing infrastructure, the near electric networks and the possibility of continuing with this project that is of interest to ELECAUSTRO.
