  • Appl. No: 12/895723
  • Application Filed: September 30, 2010
  • Claim: 1. A fraud detection processor-implemented method, comprising: receiving information regarding a virtual currency transaction including a user identifier of a user associated with the virtual currency transaction; calculating via a processor a potential fraud event threshold score for the user by analyzing past fraud data associated with the user; calculating via the processor a virtual currency transaction fraud score by analyzing the user's social graph and the user's prior game play patterns; determining via the processor that the virtual currency transaction fraud score exceeds the potential fraud event threshold score for the user; and identifying the virtual currency transaction as potentially fraudulent as a result of the determination.
  • Claim: 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising tracking virtual currency associated with the potentially fraudulent virtual currency transaction using a batch of tracked virtual currency.
  • Claim: 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the past fraud data associated with the user includes potential fraud events associated with the user and actual fraud associated with the user.
  • Claim: 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising calculating the potential fraud event threshold score by also analyzing the user's social graph.
  • Claim: 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising calculating the virtual currency transaction fraud score by also analyzing the virtual currency transaction with respect to predetermined suspicious behavior rules.
  • Claim: 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising calculating the virtual currency transaction fraud score by also analyzing social graphs of other transaction participants.
  • Claim: 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating a fraud alert if the virtual currency transaction fraud score exceeds the potential fraud event threshold score for the user by a predetermined amount.
  • Claim: 8. A fraud detection apparatus, comprising: a memory; a processor disposed in communication with said memory, and configured to issue a plurality of processing instructions stored in the memory, wherein the processor issues instructions to: receive information regarding a virtual currency transaction including a user identifier of a user associated with the virtual currency transaction; calculate a potential fraud event threshold score for the user by analyzing past fraud data associated with the user; calculate a virtual currency transaction fraud score by analyzing the user's social graph and the user's prior game play patterns; determine that the virtual currency transaction fraud score exceeds the potential fraud event threshold score for the user; and identify the virtual currency transaction as potentially fraudulent as a result of the determination.
  • Claim: 9. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising instructions to track virtual currency associated with the potentially fraudulent virtual currency transaction using a batch of tracked virtual currency.
  • Claim: 10. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the past fraud data associated with the user includes potential fraud events associated with the user and actual fraud associated with the user.
  • Claim: 11. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising instructions to calculate the potential fraud event threshold score by also analyzing the user's social graph.
  • Claim: 12. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising instructions to calculate the virtual currency transaction fraud score by also analyzing the virtual currency transaction with respect to predetermined suspicious behavior rules.
  • Claim: 13. The apparatus of claim 12, further comprising instructions to calculate the virtual currency transaction fraud score by also analyzing social graphs of other transaction participants.
  • Claim: 14. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising instructions to generate a fraud alert if the virtual currency transaction fraud score exceeds the potential fraud event threshold score for the user by a predetermined amount.
  • Claim: 15. A processor-readable physical medium storing processor-issuable-and-generated instructions to: receive information regarding a virtual currency transaction including a user identifier of a user associated with the virtual currency transaction; calculate a potential fraud event threshold score for the user by analyzing past fraud data associated with the user; calculate a virtual currency transaction fraud score by analyzing the user's social graph and the user's prior game play patterns; determine that the virtual currency transaction fraud score exceeds the potential fraud event threshold score for the user; and identify the virtual currency transaction as potentially fraudulent as a result of the determination.
  • Claim: 16. The physical medium of claim 15, further comprising instructions to track virtual currency associated with the potentially fraudulent virtual currency transaction using a batch of tracked virtual currency.
  • Claim: 17. The physical medium of claim 15, wherein the past fraud data associated with the user includes potential fraud events associated with the user and actual fraud associated with the user.
  • Claim: 18. The physical medium of claim 15, further comprising instructions to calculate the potential fraud event threshold score by also analyzing the user's social graph.
  • Claim: 19. The physical medium of claim 15, further comprising instructions to calculate the virtual currency transaction fraud score by also analyzing the virtual currency transaction with respect to predetermined suspicious behavior rules.
  • Claim: 20. The physical medium of claim 19, further comprising instructions to calculate the virtual currency transaction fraud score by also analyzing social graphs of other transaction participants.
  • Claim: 21. The physical medium of claim 15, further comprising instructions to generate a fraud alert if the virtual currency transaction fraud score exceeds the potential fraud event threshold score for the user by a predetermined amount.
  • Current U.S. Class: 705/39
  • Current International Class: 06; 06
