  • Claim: 1. An apparatus comprising: baseband processing circuitry configured to: generate at least one artificial channel function for combining with at least one multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) layer input to a precoder; and provide the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input to the precoder; and transmitter circuitry configured to transmit a channel based on the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input.
  • Claim: 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input is uncorrelated with other MIMO layers input to the precoder.
  • Claim: 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the artificial channel function is applied to the MIMO layer input by multiplying data in each subcarrier k with a corresponding artificial channel value.
  • Claim: 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the artificial channel function varies in one or more of phase and magnitude.
  • Claim: 5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the artificial channel function is generated such that the artificial channel has a flat response at channel edges.
  • Claim: 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the artificial channel function is [mathematical expression included] wherein k is a subcarrier index and Nsub indicates a total number of subcarriers in the channel.
  • Claim: 7. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the artificial channel function is generated such that the artificial channel function is a cyclic time shift of the respective MIMO layer input.
  • Claim: 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the artificial channel function is [mathematical expression included] where k is a subcarrier index and wherein N indicates a length of an FFT in the channel.
  • Claim: 9. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the artificial channel function comprises a concatenation of three linear phase segments.
  • Claim: 10. A non-transitory computer-readable medium including instructions that, when implemented on a device, cause the device to perform instructions including: generating at least one artificial channel function for combining with at least one code division multiplexing (CDM) input to a precoder; providing the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input to the precoder; and transmitting a channel based on the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input.
  • Claim: 11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input is uncorrelated with other MIMO layers input to the precoder.
  • Claim: 12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11, wherein the artificial channel function is applied to the MIMO layer input by multiplying data in each subcarrier k with a corresponding artificial channel value.
  • Claim: 13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12, wherein the artificial channel function varies in one or more of phase and magnitude.
  • Claim: 14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the artificial channel function is generated such that the artificial channel has a flat response at channel edges.
  • Claim: 15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the artificial channel function is generated such that the artificial channel function is a cyclic time shift of the respective MIMO layer input.
  • Claim: 16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the artificial channel function comprises a concatenation of three linear phase segments.
  • Claim: 17. A method of reducing peak-to-average-power-ratio (PAPR) using artificial channels, the method comprising: generating at least one artificial channel function for combining with at least one multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) layer input to a precoder; providing the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input to the precoder; and transmitting a channel based on the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input.
  • Claim: 18. The method of claim 17, wherein the combined artificial channel function and MIMO layer input is uncorrelated with other MIMO layers input to the precoder.
  • Claim: 19. The method of claim 18, wherein the artificial channel function is applied to the MIMO layer input by multiplying data in each subcarrier k with a corresponding artificial channel value.
  • Claim: 20. The method of claim 19, wherein the artificial channel function varies in one or more of phase and magnitude.
  • Claim: 21. The method of claim 20, wherein the artificial channel function is generated such that the artificial channel has a flat response at channel edges.
  • Claim: 22. The method of claim 20, wherein the artificial channel function is generated such that the artificial channel function is a cyclic time shift of the respective MIMO layer input.
