Souvent présentée comme une association d’intellectuels, la LDH constitue davantage un mouvement politique à la fois pluriel et dynamique. Sa fonction de recours contentieux contre les institutions administratives et judiciaires et sa vocation de théorisation juridique l’instituent comme un lieu d’assistance doublé d’un groupe de pression. Although it is often considered as an association of intellectuals, the Ligue des droits de l’homme is mostly a political both plural and dynamical movement. It is a legal recourse against administrative and legal institutions and a place for reflexion about law so that it becomes a pressure group as well as a means for assistance. There is no predetermined content in its project, the league tries to apply eternal principles. Several times, it involves into policy but it tries mostly to get into politics. It tends to reform Justice by thinking about Human Rights and Law, but it also contributes to renew Republic by thinking about democraty.
