  • Application Filed: May 12, 2017
  • Assignees: CHM Industries, Inc. (Irving, TX, US)
  • Claim: 1. A lighting apparatus, comprising: a power housing defined by a front face, a back face and a plurality of sidewalls; a plurality of cooling fins extending from the power housing; a plurality of drivers housed by the power housing and operable to power a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs); and an LED housing rotatably coupled to and thermally separated from the power housing, the LED housing supporting the plurality of LEDs.
  • Claim: 2. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of LED cooling fins extending from and substantially covering the LED housing.
  • Claim: 3. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 wherein a first set of cooling fins extend from a first sidewall of the power housing and a second set of cooling fins extend from a second sidewall of the power housing.
  • Claim: 4. The lighting apparatus of claim 3 wherein at least one of the plurality of drivers is secured to the first sidewall and at least one of the plurality of drivers is secured to the second sidewall.
  • Claim: 5. The lighting apparatus of claim 4 wherein the first sidewall is disposed opposite the second sidewall, each of the first and second sidewalls being angled with respect to the LED housing to create angled thermal pathways for air to flow to cool the first and second set of cooling fins.
  • Claim: 6. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 further comprising an extension member coupling the LED housing to the power housing.
  • Claim: 7. The lighting apparatus of claim 6 wherein the extension member defines an aperture through which a cord extends.
  • Claim: 8. The lighting apparatus of claim 7 wherein the aperture is insulated.
  • Claim: 9. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 wherein the power housing defines an aperture through which a high mast extension member is received.
  • Claim: 10. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 wherein the LED housing is rotatable up to 360 degrees with respect to the power housing.
  • Claim: 11. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 wherein the power housing is disposed a distance above the LED housing, the distance being in a range of 1-4 inches.
  • Claim: 12. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 wherein the power housing includes a shoulder surface and further comprising a support member coupled to the LED housing and supported by the shoulder surface.
  • Claim: 13. The lighting apparatus of claim 12 further comprising a locking member securing the support member to the shoulder surface.
  • Claim: 14. The lighting apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a plurality of LED panels supported by the LED housing, each LED panel supporting at least one of the plurality of LEDs, each LED panel corresponding to one of the plurality of drivers.
  • Claim: 15. A high mast lighting apparatus, comprising: a power housing defining an opening configured to receive a high mast extension member therethrough; a plurality of drivers contained within the power housing; a light emitting diode (LED) housing rotatably coupled to and thermally separated from the power housing; a plurality of LED cooling fins extending from the LED housing toward the power housing; and a plurality of LEDs supported by the LED housing and powered by the plurality of drivers.
  • Claim: 16. The high mast lighting apparatus of claim 15 wherein the power housing includes a pair of opposed sidewalls disposed angled with respect to the LED housing, a plurality of cooling fins extending from each one of the pair of opposed sidewalls.
  • Claim: 17. The high mast lighting apparatus of claim 16 wherein at least one of the plurality of drivers is secured to a first one of the pair of the opposed sidewalls and at least one of the plurality of drivers is secured to a second one of the pair of opposed sidewalls.
  • Claim: 18. The high mast lighting apparatus of claim 15 wherein the power housing includes a shoulder surface and further comprising: a support member coupled to the LED housing and supported by the shoulder surface; and a locking member securing the support member to the shoulder surface.
  • Claim: 19. A high mast lighting system, comprising: a plurality of lighting apparatuses each configured to be coupled to an extension member disposed atop a high mast, each lighting apparatus comprising: a power housing; a light emitting diode (LED) housing rotatably coupled to and thermally separated from the power housing, a plurality of LED cooling fins extending from the LED housing; the power housing having a pair of opposed sidewalls disposed angled with respect to the LED housing, a plurality of driver cooling fins extending from each of the pair of opposed sidewalls; a plurality of drivers contained within the power housing; and a plurality of LED panels, each LED panel supported by the LED housing and comprising a plurality of LEDs supported by the LED housing and powered by the plurality of drivers.
  • Claim: 20. The high mast lighting system of claim 19 wherein each LED panel corresponds to one of the plurality of drivers.
