Cultural institutions in sport can be analysed whether and to what extent their different product offers affect the individual, corporate actors and/or the (regional) society. The so-called “use value” takes into account not only the benefits of attending a football match but also the benefits of having a football club in town. The “non-use value” on the contrary is reflecting the externalities of a football club and its matches to people who do not have any interest in the sport. We explored both values by conducting a case study of Molde Fotballklubb (MFK) in Norway, a football club looking back at a history of more than 100 years. The analysis is based on 29 semi-standardized interviews and a questionnaire with 574 respondents conducted in 2013. As an overall outcome MFK has a positive reputation, creates strong affiliation with the region and as some respondents emphasized, the club puts the city on the map.
