This book is been compiled purposely to serve as a comprehensive and coherent guide to institutions and organizations to measure and assess individuals for or in leadership positions in and outside the school environment. The book is divided into three parts. Part I: deals with the meaning, models and antecedents of competency, while part II: is devoted to conceptions of leadership and the critical theories of leadership and part III: covers instrument development processes and the final form of the instrument. The scale adapted for measuring competencies are based on the models, several existing scale and checklist from literatures. The final form of the instrument Leadership Competency Scale (LCS) which undergone factorial validation is hereby recommended for use by all educational stakeholders and researchers who may wish to carry out research on the competencies required for a leader, and for assessing individuals in leadership position, appointment of individuals to leadership position and development of leadership programmes in schools and outside school environment
