English Abstract: This paper looks at key institutional features of competition law, such as the shortness and generality of the basic legislation, the setup of the implementation and enforcement authority and the use of soft-law instruments. It compares the situation in Canadian law with trends observable in the US and in Europe. The current Canadian Competition Act is found lacking, in ways that are difficult to justify, leading to a call for a fundamental recasting to bring Canadian competition law more in line with global trends
