The article presents a study which describes the accumulation strategy of the marine demosponge Halichondria panicea Pallas exposed to dissolved cadmium (Cd), as well as the effect of Cd upon sponge filtration rate. The study used marine sponge collected by scuba diving off the coast of Bøgebjerg Strand, Fyn, Denmark in March 1992. Moreover, the study revealed that the marine sponge was able to accumulate Cd in direct proportion to the ambient Cd concentration.
