The article presents a research that studies hydrophobic, a chemically resistant polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), as a matrix to protect N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs). It explains efficient stabilization of NHCs in silicone derivatives, without any significant modification of the reactivity compared to the free species. It concludes that silicone derivatives are efficient as protecting medium for NHCs.
