The "Epistle" is the Publication Forum of Professors of Reading Teacher Educators, which is a special-interest group of the International Reading Association. This issue is concerned with information on the status of graduate reading programs, particularly doctoral programs. Articles are "Doctoral Programs in Reading: Student Characteristics, Admission Criteria, and Degree Requirements," by Robert A. Palmatier and Anthony V. Manzo; "Evaluation of Doctoral Training Experiences," by recent graduates; "Some Criteria for Evaluating Reading Doctoral Programs," by Richard Allington; and "How Does Your Program Rate?" by Robert A. Palmatier, which is a summary of a section of a doctoral program evaluation survey conducted by Palmatier and Manzo. Regular features are Moyers, which endeavors to record the job choices of new graduates and the relocation of others; Exchange, which offers a communication link between individuals who wish temporary locations; and Job Report, which lists positions available to doctoral-degree holders.
