The pamphlet presents an overview of child abuse, including definitions of child abuse and child neglect, causes and treatment processes, and legislation. Some basic approaches to treatment, prevention, and identification are described including the following: parent self-help groups, diagnostic teams, public education, and specialized training of professionals and volunteers. Brief Descriptions of the following programs are provided: the Panel for Family Living (Tacoma, Washington), Pro-Child (Arlington, Virginia), the Texas Public Information Campaign, the PACER project (St. Petersburg, Florida), Parental Stress Center (Pittsburgh), and the Child Abuse Intervention Program (Chicago).
