A major point of contention between the BDK, the DPolG and the GdP is to bind and represent servants of the criminal police to itself. The GDP claims for itself to be the quantitatively strongest advocacy in every branch of the police, as well in the German criminal police. The DPolG claims to represent the criminal police too, even if not in the same strength as the GdP. The BDK represents itself as the only and biggest advocacy within the criminal police. To what extent do these demands correspond to organizational reality is currently empirically unclear, since neither the police unions themselves nor the respective interior ministries publish relevant data. The essay analyses the results of the staff council elections of the BKA and the LKA in the period from 2016 to 2021 as an indicator for the union organization of detectives. It concerns oneself with the allocation of police union seats, their ratios and the separation between the security and criminal police, so-called unit organizations vs. branch organization. In total, the results at the federal level suggest that the GdP is the strongest representation of interest inside the branch of criminal police. The GdP achieves its goal to represent all branches of police (security police, criminal police, riot police). The BDK only succeeds to a limited extent for the criminal investigation division. The DPolG is more of a security police union and only competitive to a limited extent in the criminal police. However, one must not lose sight of the exceptions in individual countries.
