The article discusses the Six Book Challenge, a reading promotion program for adult readers created by the Reading Agency, a nonprofit organization affiliated with Great Britain's public libraries, and the labor organization the Trades Union Congress (TUC). Program participants choose six books to read, keep a diary on that experience and participate in book discussion groups. Over 9,000 British adults participated in the program in 2009. Expansion plans of the program for 2010 are presented. Quotations are offered from labor union officials, librarians, and participants in the program on its effectiveness.
