In this article the authors discuss conflicts among the Jumma people resident in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. It is a contention of the authors that the indigenous people of the Chittagong Hill Tracks suffered human rights violations at the hands of Bengali settlers and by law enforcement agencies even after the signing of a peace agreement in 1997. The authors also assert that peace cannot be attained in the region because the accord was imposed by the Bangladeshi government rather than being the result of true negotiations.
